How to Clean Your Diamonds
by Shawn Parker
There are several different ways to make sure that your diamonds stay in tip top shape. I would like to share with you a few cleaning processes that you can use to make you diamond shine like the very first day you received it. Let's explore how to get the most out of your precious jewelry.
There are several different cleaning methods that can be performed in the comfort of your own home. However, don't forget that you can always visit the store where your diamond was purchased and request a professional cleaning. Don't forget that with some diamond purchases cleanings are included. Make sure you check your paperwork to see if this was included in the original agreement.
The most common way to clean your diamonds is called a detergent bath. It's very simple to do and most everybody has the ingredients already in their home. All you need to do is fill a small bowl with warm water and add some dish detergent. Next find a small brush and gently brush away any dirt and oil that has found its way on your diamond. Make sure you do this over a strainer that has holes smaller that your diamond because sometimes the diamond can come loose and fall out of its setting. Once you have removed all of the elements from you diamonds rinse with warm water and dry with a paper towel. Never use chlorine bleach to clean your diamonds because it is way too harsh.
There are also many cleaners available on the market for care of your diamonds. These are commonly referred to as the quick dip. One thing to be aware of when using these cleaners is not to touch the diamond with your fingers after you've dipped it in the solution. The oils from your fingers can be transferred to the diamond. Make sure you allow it to dry completely before you wear it or return it to its storage space.
The last tip I want to share with you is called the cold water soak. Fill a bowl with a mixed solution of cold water and household ammonia. Place your diamonds in the solution for no less than 30 minutes. Once you remove the diamond tap the brackets that hold the diamond gently in the bottom of the bowl and swish it around for a final rinsing. Place the diamond on a piece of tissue or paper towel to dry.
